Surely then you lift up your face without blemish; you will be secure and will not fear.
LIFT OUR FACES TO GOD
I am writing this in January when the weather is cold, and we have ice and snow outside. Yet, I have poison ivy.
“How in the world can that happen?” you ask.
Suffice to say, Pat and I have two small dogs who like to run around in the brush looking for rabbits and other critters to chase. Then in the evening they like to snuggle up and, as it turns out, share the love and poison ivy. And so, we have both spent the past week or two itching, scratching and using various salves, sprays and ointments to alleviate the discomfort. The puppies still like to run in the brush, but they now get frequent baths, which they hate. The linen has been washed and we are recovering.
Although I know we will get better and this will go away, I could not help but think of Job as I lay in bed trying not to scratch the itch.
The Book of Job is one of the most challenging books in the Bible. It presents us with the story of Job, a man of great faith who endures untold suffering and loss. Yet, despite his hardships, Job remains steadfast in his trust in God. Job 11:15 encapsulates a powerful promise of hope and restoration.
The phrase “lifting up your face” signifies confidence in Christ. Sin and guilt can weigh us down, causing us to hang our heads in shame. Job 11:15 encourages us to turn to God, repent of our sins, and receive his forgiveness. It is through this process that we can walk with our heads held high knowing Christ is with us — always.
Dear Lord, thank you for the promise of Job 11:15. Help us to lift our faces to you, knowing that we are forgiven and loved. Help us to always stand in your grace despite any challenge. Help us to remember that you are always with us. In Jesus` name. Amen
