This Little Light of Mine

This little light of mine, I’m goin’a let it shine; this little light of mine, I’m goin’a let it shine;
this little light of mine, I’m goin’a let it shine,
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Ev’rywhere I go, I’m going’a let it shine; ev’rywhere I go, I’m goin’a let it shine;
every’where I go, I’m goin’a let it shine; ev’rywhere I go, I’m goin’a let it shine;
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Jesus gave it to me; I’m goin’a let it shine; Jesus gave it to me; I’m goin’a let it shine;
Jesus gave it to me; I’m goin’a let it shine;
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Jesus is the Light of the World, but we are God’s light on earth.  We are to spread the Good News of Jesus’ birth in a manger on Christmas morning to those who may not have heard it.  We are to tell of his love for us all and to share the stories of his preaching in the temple, his healing of the sick, his raising of the dead, his feeding of 5,000 people with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread, his walking on water, and his countless other miracles.  We are to tell how all our sins were forgiven by Jesus’ dying on the cross and his glorious resurrection on Easter morn.  We are to tell how God never hides his light from us, and how Jesus’ death gives us that light for eternity in heaven.  We are to tell how God’s light is with us through all our lives, in good times and in bad.

We are God’s light on earth, but we need to do more than tell others of God’s miracles.  We need to be living examples of God’s love for all.  There are so many ministries in the church and community to shine God’s love on others:

In all these ways, you are showing God’s love.  There are countless opportunities to serve. Wherever you decide to shine your light to serve others will be a blessing.

We are God’s light on this earth, so let your light shine!  Let it shine in your heart, in your family, in your church, in your community, in the world.  Shine your light proudly, knowing God gave you his light to show you the way!
