Read Genesis 6:1-8

And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. (v. 6)

CHALLENGING THE EVIL

During the time depicted in today’s text, evil was rampant. The "sons of God," whom some interpret as angelic beings, were acting in a manner very displeasing to God. Wickedness was so prevalent that God regretted creating people.

Only one man and his family found favor in the eyes of the Lord. As we read further in the book of Genesis, we discover that God did indeed cause a great flood that destroyed all living creatures except those on Noah’s ark. God later laments that never again would he destroy the world in this manner.

When we look at the world today, we again see so much evil. Men and women commit despicable acts. We shake our heads and wonder, "What is this world coming to?"

We all fall short before God. But we know something that the people of Genesis didn’t. We know that God so loved the world that he gave his only son. In spite of our ways, we can be saved – if only we believe.

It is up to us to respond to that singular, loving act in a manner that challenges the evil around us. It is up to each of us to bring as much good into the world as possible. Today, let us all look into our hearts and find a way that we can make the world a better place – a way to help our fellow creatures and finally bring peace on earth.

Heavenly Father, give us the strength and the courage to live our
lives in a manner that is pleasing to you. Help us overcome our
weaknesses and shortcomings so that we can make the world a better place for all.
