Read Matthew 7:7-11

Ask and it will be given you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (vv 7-8)

GOD RESPONDS

I am a pray-er, and I believe that God responds to all prayer in one way or another. Although God hasn't always said yes to my prayers, he has opened many doors for me.

I have prayed for several months that my son would find a job to provide adequately for his family, a job that would be meaningful and enjoyable at the same time. Recently, he was hired as a contract worker. The position could become permanent down the road. Whether this job will be the answer to my prayer or just a stepping stone, we do not yet know. I do know that the Lord is listening to my prayers and has opened a door for my son.

During my husband's last illness, I allowed our summer pasture to be heavily over-cropped. I asked God to help me become a better steward of the land. Last month my renters and I received the annual conservation award for that same pasture. Another door opened, another prayer answered.

After my husband died, I asked for fellowship. Our church group for seniors, called BTOL (Best Times of Life), opened a door for me. I was alone, and they welcomed me. I have become better acquainted with fellow church members, more responsive to their needs and more connected to my friends and neighbors.

I asked for meaningful work. God led me to become a member of the Reformation Blanket Makers and Rebecca Circle. Activities in those groups have opened the doors to helping others through Operation Holiday, Oaks Indian Center, area nursing homes, Camp Tomah Shinga, Church Women United, and the sick and homebound in our congregation.

The point is that the Lord hears our prayers no matter how trivial or personal the request, and the Lord responds. Bend your knee, ask for God's help, and feel the peace that passes all understanding.
