- President Mark Hansen called the meeting to order. Byron Folkerts led Community Building
and Prayer.
- MOTION
to approve the Council Minutes for February 21. (Gene/Dallas) Carried.
- REPORTS
to accept the Financial Secretarys Report. (Waldo/Gene) Carried.
- MOTION
to accept the Treasurers Report. (Dallas/Al) Carried.
- Pastor Sally Fahrenthold presented a written Pastors Report. She requested
specific adjustments within the total salary package for her services as Interim Pastor at
Reformation.
MOTION to adjust Pastor Fahrentholds salary package to: pay 100% of
health insurance; to change mileage compensation to accountable mileage up to $200 per
month; to direct compensation in excess of maximum allowable earnings under Social
Security payable directly to charities of Pastor Fahrentholds choice; total salary
package to remain the same. (Mike/Gene) Carried.
- Reformation has received notice that it is to receive a bequest of 10% of the
estate of Ruth Blackburn. The benefit will be received in approximately six months.
- UPDATES
- Waldo reported for the 50th Anniversary Ministry Team. Wil Johnson has
written three chancel dramas on Reformation PastPresentFuture. These are to be
presented during a June to October time frame.
- Waldo also reported for the Call Committee. One candidate who had scheduled an
interview cancelled due to already being in conversation with another congregation. A
meeting with another candidate has been scheduled.
- Ken reported for the Positive Support Ministry Team. Banners will be installed on
each of the six light poles by Easter. Bids have been received for shrubbery planned for
the entry driveways.
- Byron reported for the Music Ministry Task Force. Posters advertising the job
opening for an organist at Reformation have been sent to over 50 locations, such as
schools, with the request that the ad be posted. The task force has met each Sunday
through March 17, and will meet again the first Sunday after Easter. They are considering
the possibility of an ad in the newspaper.
- Dallas announced that six persons have agreed to serve on the Shared Ministry Team; Susan
Cherches, Suzanne Koch, Susan Martin, Marsha Meili, Jill Pletcher, and Lynn Schriever.
Shared Ministry works to identify the gifts of the people and apply those gifts to the
tasks to be done. Shared Ministry assessment forms were filled out by those present at the
Council meeting.
- Reformation needs to designate a representative to serve on the Area Ministry 5
Strategic Planning Team. Mark Hansen will make some contacts to find someone to serve
in that capacity.
- Mark presented written reports regarding Vision, Ministries, and Goals as an
update to Council objectives and actions.
- OTHER BUSINESS
- Mark announced that Constitution Review will be done by Keith Martin and Sondra
Langel. A motion passed at the Annual Congregation Meeting on January 27 specifically
called for addressing needed revision regarding election procedures.
- Central States Synod Assembly
will be held June 13-16 at the Hyatt Hotel in Wichita.
Registration of $100 per delegate must be submitted to the Synod office prior to May 13.
Assembly events will include a Bishops Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 13 with
arrangements being made by Reformations Golfers for God. There will also be an open
worship service Friday evening, June 14, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, followed by a
Bishops reception.
- Festival of Faith
worship service sponsored by Reformation on Sunday, May 12, will
again be a part of the Wichita River Festival.
- New Members
will be received on April 28. Special adult classes on "Renewal of
Faith Basics of Our Beliefs" are scheduled for 9:45 a.m. each Sunday in April.
Council members are encouraged to attend.
- Gene Bowers advised that the 50th Anniversary Dramas will require
intricate technical lighting and sound equipment. He requested authorization for $3,000 to
be designated for technical expenses connected with the drama productions. Following
discussion, the request was tabled until the next Council meeting.
- The meeting adjourned with the Lords Prayer. Next Council meeting will be April
18, 2002, at 7:30 p.m.
