Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. (v. 10)
THE INSPIRATION TO BE MORE
Just as I am, I come to you, O God. You sent your son Jesus to bring sinners into your kingdom, to take our sins upon himself and to die on the cross that we might be forgiven.
What a friend we have in Jesus!
And what is a friend? A friend is someone with whom you dare to be yourself. A friend gives you freedom to be who you are, but also the inspiration to become more than you are, the confidence to reach your full potential, and the awareness to see the needs of others.
Yes, you sent Jesus to receive me just as I am. But you also sent to each of us the inspiration and confidence to become more Christ-like in our lives. Psalm 51 refers to the paths we should follow. The Psalm speaks of cleansing and renewal. And verse 6 gives this example: "Indeed, you delight in truth deep within me, and would have me know wisdom deep within."
The wisdom that you would have me know comes to me and to all in your Holy Word. Through scripture, worship, prayer and the sacraments, you reach out to me and to all your children to show us ways in which we can serve you by serving others. Thanks be to God!
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for receiving us sinners into your kingdom and leading us in the paths of righteousness to be yours, the children of God, in thought, word and deed.
