Read Mark 10:14-15

“Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.”

LET THE CHILDREN COME

What is it that the little children have that we need to also strive to have? First of all, they have unconditional faith. If faith is the primary attribute that assures our invitation to the table, we must be like the little children. Children’s faith is unconditional because they have no life experiences that have shattered that faith. They have faith in their parents, their teachers, and all those who take care of them.

Secondly, little children are not judgmental. The invitation to the table is an open invitation. God does not want anyone to judge others by their age, skin color, gender, or social status. In fact, God would like us to invite others to his table, not just our friends and family, but anyone who has faith and love in their heart. Sinners are invited to the feast in order to receive God’s grace and see his love through others.

Finally, we must realize that we are all God’s children and therefore have a reserved place at the table. As we go through life, we must keep our focus on God’s grace and love, and we must share it with others. We must not allow other things to get in the way of our invitation to the feast.

God, help us to be like the little children. Let our faith be unconditional, and let our eyes see without judgment. Ensure that we invite and not restrict those who would come to your table. Amen.
