TABLE FOR HOW MANY?
Sometimes we get carried away with acquiring possessions to make life somehow easier, simpler, more elegant. Each and every day, new products are developed for us to consume.
I bought a new dining room table just before Christmas. I ran out of time to measure it and buy a new tablecloth, so we had to make do with new napkins and napkin rings. We dined in newly installed splendor.
Gathered round the new table at the appointed time was my family: children, grandchildren and husband. Now, we don't get many beggars in our neighborhood, but if we had, I fear we would not have invited them in to find a place at our table
I did, however, contribute to the Share the Season project, promote community service efforts with my student government members at school and give to the Lord's Diner. And I am a regular contributor to the Discovery Shop.
Am I doing enough? Could I do more? These are questions we all must ask ourselves regularly.
All God's children deserve a place at the table. Some need a little help getting there.
Heavenly Father, help us to recognize need when we see it and give us strength to banish it.
