FEED YOUR SPIRITUAL HUNGER
When we are hungry and thirsty, what comes to mind? Food and water are essential to sustain our bodies. But our Lord teaches us of a much deeper hunger, a much deeper thirst. This also needs to be satisfied for us to spend eternity with our Father in heaven.
Many times, Jesus taught about being hungry and thirsty. In the Sermon on the Mount, he was speaking of our search to fill ourselves with the wisdom of the Word of God. We have only to seek, read, and believe that the Lord has provided everything we need to feed our spirit. Only then will we not fear death. Only then will we know that we will live forever with our Lord. There is room for all at the table, for all those who need to be fed.
God promises that those who seek him will be satisfied. Isaiah tells us, “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat … Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.”
Our entry into heaven and our life eternal with our Lord and Savior is ours, without question or reservation, if we but feed our spiritual hunger with God’s word, “so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but may have eternal life” (John 3:16). Jesus says: “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27-28).
Remember, there is a place at the table for all who hunger and thirst for righteousness, and they will be filled.
Father, help me to always hunger and thirst for your Word and, through your nourishment, enjoy life eternal with you.
