Read Colossians 1: 1-14

“May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.” (v. 11-12)

GOD IS WITH US

The imprisoned Apostle Paul provided the above message to the Colossians. He was concerned that they were listening to false teachings. Paul candidly reminded them that God, through his Son, Jesus, is supreme over everything and that salvation is through Christ. Paul’s message of more than 2,000 years ago is still relevant to us today. It’s a message of faith broadcast into a secular, suspicious world.

The Saturday before this past Christmas, my wife and I went to Towne East to do the last of our Christmas shopping. The mall parking lot was full. There were shoppers galore. Store clerks and shoppers were stressed. The “spending frenzy” was in high gear. Lost in this circus atmosphere was the true meaning of Christmas ... that Jesus is the Light of the world. Just as in Paul’s day, it is so easy for us as Christians to get caught up in this false, secular, consumer-crazed world. The good news from Paul is that we can be made strong through our faith in God.

Lent is a time for self-examination. Life may not always be fair. Life can be difficult. Times can be tough. What we do know, whether in good times or in bad times, is that God will always be there for us as long as we believe. We must live our life through faith. The birth, death and resurrection of Jesus, our Savior, is the Light that shines in a world filled with sin and darkness.

Thank you, loving Lord, for bringing Jesus into the world as our Light to salvation. Amen

Larry D. Ehrlich
