CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?
I have vacation memories of touring a mine or cave. It seems that
in all of those tours, the tour guide must turn out the lights just
so that tourists can get the feeling of being enveloped in darkness.
For me, there is a feeling of panic. I cannot move because there is
no way of knowing what lies ahead of me or behind me. I know it
would be difficult, if not impossible, to navigate the way out in
the darkness. When the guide turns on a flashlight, there is a
feeling of relief. There is someone there to light the way and guide
me out of the darkness.
Those who do not have a relationship with God can often feel
lost, lack hope and be unable to make good choices in their lives.
Our responsibility as Christians is to guide those people, to be
their light, to be an example of how one should act. This is a
difficult task. Many times, it is much easier to say you are a
Christian than to act like a Christian. In my career, I find that I
am often torn when making decisions. Decisions that may be best for
the financial health of the company are not necessarily the best for
the people associated with it.
As I write this, just days before Christmas, I see people being
generous and kind. By now, we have often forgotten this is the
expected behavior year round. We are challenged to be an example to
others always.
Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Son Jesus, the Light
of the world, to show us the way. Help us to be an example to others
and give glory to your name. Amen
