Read John 8: 12-20

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (v.12)

WALKING IN HIS LIGHT

Very early in the drama of creation, God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light.

At one point in a tour of a large cave, our guide turned off all the lights --- total darkness! Unrelieved blackness. There was no dimension. Direction had no meaning. We could see absolutely nothing! We held our hands in front of our faces. Nothing. Had we not trusted our guide, it would have been a terrifying experience, and even so, it was a relief when once again light returned and we could see. Instead of the blackness, we could now see colors and forms. We had a sense of direction. And we could see that we were in a recognizable place.

Consider the power of light! Without light, plant life is non-existent, or greatly inhibited. Without light, we cannot see where we walk, and can easily stumble and fall. Without light, we almost surely will lose our way. Without light, there is no color.

Visit a flower garden very early in the morning, before the sun is visible over the horizon. The flowers are there. At first, we cannot even see them, or if we see them, we see them only in shades of gray. But look! A glow begins to appear on the eastern horizon. Ever so slowly, the light increases and, miraculously, the blossoms take on color. And when the sun shines in its full brilliance, a wild and delightful palette of color surrounds us. All because the light has come!

Jesus, the Light of the world, has come.

His light causes us to grow.
His light gives our life experience rich meaning.
His light enables us to walk steadily, on a safe and godly way.
And, walking in his light, our daily experiences are rich with color and beauty and meaning.
Walk with Jesus. It is very satisfying.

Thank you, loving God, for Jesus, our living Light. Amen
