Read Isaiah 49: 1-6

“I will give you as a light to the nations that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” (v. 6)

GOD’S ‘LIGHTS’

“A light to the nations…” What an incredible task God is calling us to take on. As I read these verses and thought about their message, I realized that in these turbulent times, we need to be God's lights to the nations --- or at least to those in our own community.

We are being called to spread God's word and tell of his great sacrifice and love for us all. We are being called to tell of God's care and support for us all. We are being called to tell of God's promise of everlasting life for us all. We are being called to tell how God gave his only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to save us from our sins. We are being called not only to tell the Good News, but to show the Good News to those in our community.

Just as God showed us by sacrificing his Son on the cross, he asks us to sacrifice for our neighbors. He asks us to give to our churches to support their missions. He asks us to volunteer at our community charities for those in need. He asks us to become involved in our churches, for example, by teaching a Sunday school class or becoming a youth group sponsor or organizing a weekly Bible study class. God asks us to tell and show those around us of his great love for us all.

This Lenten season, let us shine as God's lights for all to see. Let us be examples to those around us by our words and deeds. Let us make sacrifices of our gifts to those who need a helping hand --- as God sacrificed for us.

Dear Father in Heaven, help us show our neighbors your love. Let us answer your call to become lights to the nations. Thank you, O Lord, for your greatest sacrifice of all, the death of Jesus on the cross to save us from our sins. Amen
