I FEAR NO EVIL
The darkness of fear looms large in our world today. As we look
outside our country, we experience fear for our armed service people
who strive to maintain peace in countries guided by terror. Within
our own country, we experience fear from criminals, disease,
disaster, and death. In our personal lives, our fear develops for
our families, our children, our health, and our jobs. Many fears go
unnamed, yet they darken our lives daily. However, there is hope. In
the light of God we are told, “Even though I walk through the
darkest valley, I fear no evil…”
God’s light promises us the quiet and peace of his love. We must
have faith and believe that God is with us in our darkness. Let Him
hold you and protect you as he guides you through the dark valleys,
and fear not, for God is with us. I am reminded of the children’s
song: “Everything is going to turn out OK, just you wait and see.
Everything is going to turn out OK, ’cause God is watching over me.”
I remember getting ready for a trip that would take me away from
my family. I was worried about all the things that mothers worry
about --- the kids’ schedules, homework, clothes and, most
importantly, their safety. My son was 8 years old at the time. He
knew I was fearful. He leaned over, touched my heart and said
quietly, “Mom, you don’t need to worry. If something happens to me,
I will always be in your heart and I’ll be living with God. That’s a
good place to be.”
It took the innocence and faith of a child to remind me that God
is the Light. Have faith, and fear no evil.
Heavenly Father, please guide us in our times of darkness. Help
us to remember that you are beside us in all our trials and that you
bring the light of love and faith. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
