DON’T HIDE FROM GOD’S LIGHT
Say there is a criminal in a house. When we shine a light in the
room, he can either run from the light or hide from the light. The
criminal will probably hide behind the couch. When God was shining
his Light, humankind hid instead of facing it. When the light shines
on the criminal, it shows that he has done wrong. God sent Jesus to
show us that we were doing wrong, but that he forgives us because
his love for us is so great. Jesus was God’s light shining.
The Pharisees and the Sadducees taught God’s law (the Ten
Commandments) and their own laws. God sent Jesus to tell us that we
should obey God’s laws, but also love God. It means that when we
break his law, God will forgive us because his love for us is so
great. The high priests saw Jesus as a threat. They did not want to
lose their power to him. All they taught was “naughty, naughty,
naughty.” Jesus taught, “You have done wrong, but you will be
forgiven.” The high priests did not know of God’s love. They said
that on the Sabbath, if your cow got stuck in the muck, you could
not help it out because that was work. You could not cook because it
was work. That was how you showed your love to God. Jesus showed
people that God would still love them if they saved their cow on the
Sabbath. He showed them they should love God and let his light shine
through them.
When we are young, our parents set rules for us. Their rules do
not make us love them. Their love for us makes us love them. God
wants his light to shine. He wants us to accept his light.
Heavenly Father, please help us to see and understand your Light.
Help us to let others see your Light shining. We thank you for
forgiving our sins. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
