Read Luke 15: 8-10

“Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?” (v. 8)

REGAINING THE LOST

I have now written this devotional twice! My first attempt was lost along with the clipboard it was on. Fate? Bad luck? Who knows? But I have learned a very personal lesson about searching for something that is lost. This is, therefore, a very different devotional from the first.

I can tell you, when something is lost, you will search desperately to find it. When you do not find it, it can be upsetting, to say the least. I cannot imagine how it must feel to God when he searches and searches for his lost sheep. He has reached out in so many ways, finally giving his only Son for us, and still there are those who are lost to him. Some are lost by accident, some of their own free will and yet others because of outside influences.

When we are searching for something missing, what do we often do? Speaking from very recent, personal experience, I can tell you without hesitation: We ask others to help us look. Guess what? That is what God does. He asks us to help find his lost sheep. We must all look for those who are lost to God. We must all reach out to those lost souls and bring them back to the flock. We must all see the soul within the sinner, just as God does.

Send forth, O God, a call to all your servants, granting them hearts of love, sincerity of speech and the power of the Holy Spirit, that they may be able to persuade their fellow man to turn from sin and follow you. Through Jesus Christ, your only Son, our Lord, I ask for this. Amen
