Read Isaiah 2: 5-22

“Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord! For you have forsaken the ways of your people …” (vv. 5-6)

ROAD SIGN AHEAD: THE LORD ZONE

Surely you’ve seen one of the scads of movies where someone is faced with a fork in the road. Which is the right way to go? This way, which is brightly lit, has flowers blooming and birds twittering? Or this way, which is dark, misty and as creepy as can be?

Hmm … which way, which way?

Or one of those horror movies when someone comes to a house on a stormy night. The door is open, no lights are on, and no one comes when you call. Do you enter, or walk back --- nay, run back --- to the car?

What to do, what to do?

Unfortunately, in the movies, the character often makes the wrong choice, as audience members hoot derisively.

In real life, the paths usually aren’t that clear cut. It’s unlikely anyone is watching the movie of our life yelling, “That way! That way!” And sometimes the correct decision seems obvious only in hindsight.

But many times, there is guidance, a road sign: Live as the Lord would want you to. That’s it. That’s the path where the Light is truly shining as you come out of the fog.

Now, maybe this doesn’t answer all the questions in your life. (Sorry, but when it comes to choosing a flavor of ice cream or what movie to see on Friday night, you’re on your own.) And maybe some of the controversial issues of our day will seem tough still --- after all, oftentimes people on both sides of an issue claim God’s backing. But if you stick to the path God has given us, trust me, God will stick with you.

Lord, please help us follow the path you have laid out for us, and live our lives the way you ask us to. Please shine your Light on us, to make that path clear. Amen

Ken Hobart.
