Read Isaiah 9: 1-7

“The people who walk in darkness will see a great light --- a light that will shine on all who live in the land where death casts its shadow.” (vv. 2-3, New Living Translation)

AN END TO DARKNESS AND DESPAIR

It is after the fall of Israel, but before the fall of Judah (circa 750 B.C.), and Isaiah writes about a future to come where the peoples of the world will see a great light -- the great light that will open their darkness and bring peace to this war-torn world.

The tribes of Judah, not themselves following God’s word, have seen their kin in the northern part of Solomon’s kingdom overrun and removed by the Assyrians and their land occupied by foreigners.

In a time of darkness and despair, Isaiah foretells of a future where God’s light will again shine among all men.

That was 2,700 years ago. And today’s world is still in darkness, looking for the promised light: the Light to allow us to see God’s beautiful creation together in love and peace under the guide and governance of his Son. We have, however, seen the child born and now hope and wait for the dawn of his return, the Easter Sonrise that brings in his kingdom.

Dear Lord, let my eyes see thy Light increase day by day and allow me to pass it to others to your glory. Amen
