Jesus taught the disciples many
lessons while he was in their presence. He knew it would be impossible for mortal persons
to remember all the things he did and all that he had said. He knew that they would need
help to spread the word without losing their individual perspectives. So he promised to
send the Holy Spirit to be their guide and their strength.
As I write this devotional today, the world seems to be at a
crossroads. One path leads to war, the other to peace. One path leads to love for self,
the other to love for neighbor. One path leads to racial bias, the other to equal
opportunities for all.
It is up to each person to choose which path he or she will travel. We
need the teachings of Jesus to help us make the right choices, but we, like the disciples,
also need the guidance of one much greater then we. So Jesus makes the same promise to us.
The Holy Spirit will be ever present to teach us, to guide us, and to
strengthen us as we strive to be examples of Jesus Christ.
Heavenly Father, give us the strength to live our lives according
to your wishes. Thank you for the gift of your Son and the Holy Spirit.
