As
Gods chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness,
humility, meekness, and patience.
In the book of Colossians, Saint Paul explains to the Christian
community about their special relationship with God. Although they are not Israelites and
thus not circumcised by tradition, they are numbered among the chosen through faith and
baptism. Because of their faith in Christ, the Law no longer binds them. Paul points out
the responsibility of walking the walk of discipleship.
As Christians we understand that we should act like Christians. We know
it is not because the Ten Commandments tell us to, but because we profess our faith
regarding our love of Jesus Christ. Because of that faith, we will enjoy eternal life. Can
we really love Jesus and then act as if we have never heard of his love for all people?
Recently Pastor Tom preached about disciples of Christ being born one
at a time. They individually make a prayerful commitment to Jesus. They are Stephen
Ministers building Christian relationships with people in pain. They are volunteers
assisting other Christians discover their God given talents. They are volunteers who show
up to work at Paint the Town or Habitat for Humanity. They are Sunday School teachers,
choir singers, members of the prayer chain, worship assistants, Parish Nurses who visit
the hospitalized. They are even Golfers for God who diligently plow through the fairways
raising money and finding ways to share their faith in the name of Jesus.
Christians are living Jesus love and sharing that love both
inside and outside the walls of our church.
Father in heaven we thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ,
as our Savior into this world that we may learn of your love, grow in faith, and share
your gifts with those whose lives we touch.
