Read Psalm 118

SHARE THE GIFT OF TODAY

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

God has given you the gift of this new day – a gift filled with the promise of his love. How will you use this day? Will you let it slip away without using it for some meaningful purpose? How may you share it with others? In what ways can you let the light that is God’s love shine through you to brighten the world around you?

Once tomorrow comes, this day is gone forever. What you do with this day is important, because you exchange a day of your life for it. You can dwell upon disappointments and sorrows, or you can recognize the love of God, which brings hope to replace the sorrows.

You may share the gift of this new day in many ways. Give those around you a smile and a pleasant word of encouragement. Look for ways to do a kind deed for another. Is there someone you know whose day would be brightened with a phone call or a cheery note from you? Call or write! The children whose lives you touch need someone to listen as they discover the wonderful or troublesome things in their unfolding lives. Listen!

Just as this day is a gift – a present – God’s presence is the greatest gift of all. God is present in the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins that we might be forgiven, and who was raised from the dead to show us the way to eternal life.

Share this gift of forgiveness, love, and life by letting God’s love shine through you.

Gracious God, we thank you for the gift of this new day and for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to use this day for good, not evil; for love, not hate; for joy in your presence in this and every day of our lives.
