Ask and
it will be given you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.
For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who
knocks, the door will be opened.
Ready to submit this devotion, I realized something. My assigned
scripture verse is the same verse that my husband and I chose for our brick in the
churchs Meditation Garden! We had decided to include a verse to remind those seeking
comfort to turn to God and his word.
That was before Joshua joined our family.
Many of us include the words "thy will be done" in our
prayers. My thoughts take me back to a hospital waiting room late one night. I was in a
prayer circle while my dad struggled to recover from open heart surgery complications. My
brother ended his prayer with "thy will be done." Surely it wasnt
Gods will that I lose my dad! On the way home that night, I prayed to God, begging
for dads healing and recovery. My selfish prayers were answered.
The first time I truly asked for Gods will to be done I
was devastated by the answer. We had just found out that the baby we were about to adopt
was not going to be coming home with us after all. We called to be put on the church
prayer list while the birth father and his parents struggled with their decision. We asked
for prayers for them, and we asked that Gods will be done. Even though I didnt
fully understand Gods plan, I felt at peace.
That was one year and three months before Joshua, our precious gift
from God, was born. That adoption was a true test of faith. Daily, I submitted my will to
God, believing that if this baby was chosen by God for us, then God would make it happen.
And he did.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us continue to seek your will in
prayer. We praise you for sending your son, Jesus Christ, to be a living example for us.
In Jesus name we pray.
