Read Psalm 90:1-12

TREASURE EACH DAY

So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.

We keep track of time in days and years. God counts in eternities.

We measure space in miles. God measures in light years.

For a sense of God’s perspective, go to the NASA web site and click on camera views of Earth from space or the Milky Way.

People are definitely limited in perceptions of time and space. God’s eternity is on a scale we cannot imagine. As we read in Psalm 90, "… a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past."

For years our faithful companion was a beagle named CJ. One human year is said to be seven years in a dog’s life. A human week is seven dog weeks. One day to us felt like a week to CJ.

We would leave CJ every morning and return in the evening. He was always so excited to see us again. CJ would jump, bark, and wildly wag his tail.

Of course he was happy! To CJ, the passing of the day had seemed like a week. He wasn’t sure he’d ever see us again.

Some days time flies, but some days drag on and on like CJ’s.

Maybe we’re challenged by serious illness, a broken relationship, or even a difficult situation at work. We ask ourselves, "Will this ever end?"

At such moments, it’s healthy to take time for a spiritual break. Ask God for help. Reach out to a loved one. Come to Bible study. Worship in community with others. When you again experience the comforts our Lord will provide, your ticker will get back on time.

We count our life in years, but God tells us to number our days and treasure each one of them.

Remember: Each of us is just one heartbeat away from eternity.

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us and prosper for us the work of our hands and hearts.
