God's creative work unfolded at the beginning of
time. Out of chaos God ordered the universe and gave life its meaning. This
beginning came to pass by the power of God, for God spoke and the world came into being.
God has continued this creative process through a re-birthing in
baptism where we are joined with Christ in his death and resurrection. It is through
baptism that we are inaugurated into this new creation. By the divine power found in
this sacrament we are given life and salvation.
The good news here is that God is the God of new beginnings! Even
after sin entered the world and separated us from the very one who gave us life, this same
God reestablished our relationship through the promise of his Son. Through the power of
that promise finding its fulfillment in Christ, we are made children of God.
But it doesn't end there.
We are then called to mend our relationships with others so that the
message of reconciliation and redemption can permeate all of creation! As an Easter
people we carry on this promise of reconciliation each
time we share in the Eucharistic feast with our sisters and brothers, reaching out to them
with the same love given to us by the Spirit in baptism.
We are called to do this "until the Lord comes" when, at
last, we will behold the new heaven and the new earth on the day of Christs return.
I praise you, my Creator, for being the God of new beginnings,
for in you I find my hope when all around me seems grim. I ask for your transforming
power in my life. Make me, yet again, a new creation that I may daily experience
your grace and may then pass it on through my relationships with others.
