Jesus
answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their
sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the
poor have good news brought to them."
In todays text we learn about Jesus fulfilling the
prophecies of Isaiah. Later in chapter 29, verses 18-19, we read, "On that day the
deaf shall hear the words of a scroll, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the
blind shall see. The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord, and the neediest people
shall exult in the Holy One of Israel."
In chapter 35, verses 5-6, the words are as follows: "Then the
eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall
leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy."
It must have been amazing to see Jesus heal the blind, the deaf, and
the lame -- especially in his time on earth with the disciples. Modern medicine
didnt exist.
Today we almost expect doctors and nurses to heal everything from a
minor cut to a worn-out organ. Heart transplants and many other surgeries save lives every
day. To whom should the credit for lifesaving medical technology be given? Some say,
"We see no miracles today, its just modern science." Maybe its time
for us to speak up and say, "God does miracles through these medical disciples."
Prophecies were fulfilled by Jesus. Miracles were done by Jesus and
continue to be done today. Gods promises to us are relevant in our daily lives. Look
around you and thank God for at least one miracle each day.
God of Promises Fulfilled, be with us today as we go about our
daily lives in a modern world. Help us to recognize you in every part of our lives. In
Jesus name we pray.
