Read Luke 5:17-20

HOW FAR WILL WE GO?

Just then some men came, carrying a paralyzed man on a bed. They were trying to bring him in and lay him before Jesus.

How far would we go to help a friend?

The men in our reading are determined to bring their friend to Jesus. They get him to the house where Jesus is, but there are so many people that they can’t get him to the door. Does that stop them? No. They go up on the roof and remove part of the roof. Then they lower their friend down in front of Jesus.

Would we be this willing to help a friend?

Sometimes it is difficult for us to take the time to visit a sick friend, and we often neglect to bring our sick friends to Jesus in prayer. So, how far would we go to bring a friend into the healing presence of Jesus?

How far would Jesus go for us?

Jesus went all the way to the cross. He gave his life for us. Jesus paid the price for our sins. Jesus heals our relationship with God.

Now, how far will we go to bring a friend into the healing presence of Jesus?

Heavenly Father, remember all who are sick in body and spirit that they may be comforted by your presence. Bring them healing and bring them peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
