Luke 8:22-25

Be Still

And he woke up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, "Where is your faith?" They were afraid and amazed, and said to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and water, and they obey him?"

Jesus had the power to calm the wind and the water, and the disciples were amazed. Jesus had the power not only over the elements of nature, but he also had power to overcome his enemies. He never used that power to help himself though; he always used it to help others.

Jesus has the power to calm the storms in our lives too. He can calm the storms that sometimes rage within us and make us feel we are perishing. Many times trouble comes to us in the form of sickness, death of family or friends, marital difficulties, drug abuse, and other ways. When we try to face these daily problems alone, they can easily overwhelm us. But the good news is that we do not need to go it alone. Jesus is just there waiting for us. If we ask, he will hold up his hand and say "Be still." and those storms will stop.

If you have something troubling you today, take it to Jesus in prayer and ask him to ease your burden.

Experience his power. You will be amazed.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, today we bring our personal problems to you. We ask you to calm the storms of our lives and to give us peace. Amen.
