"God made him who
had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of
God."
Today is Holy Saturday. This day provides us with the opportunity to
pause and ponder THIS INCREDIBLE THING WHICH GOD HAS DONE.
Yes, consider what God has done. It is indeed incredible. "God
made him who did not know sin to be sin for us." Jesus stepped in front of us, took
our place, and though he himself was without sin, took the totality of our sin-burden upon
himself, took it to the Cross, and there in death eliminated our sin-guilt which separates
us from God, thus making Isaiahs beautiful prophecy come true: "Though your sin
be as scarlet, it shall be as white as snow."
And what does this all mean for us? Lines
that precede our text say it all: "God was reconciling the world to himself in
Christ, not counting men's sins against them." All this becomes ours as by faith we
are connected to Christ. In this thing which God has done the righteousness of God
becomes his gift of grace to us through faith in his Son.
Such is this incredible thing which God has done. |
