Reformation Lutheran 1997 Lenten Devotional - Number 34
March 17, 1997. Today's Bible verse is Matthew 7: 7-8
Journey
Last year, our church ended a nearly two-year journey.
Leaving our old sanctuary, going from one building to another
- while waiting for the new edifice to be built. It was a long
journey for many. Some were lost along the way, and at times
I felt a bit frustrated. But the church survived and has prospered.
In biblical times, there were many journeys. The
three wise men made their way to Jerusalem bearing gifts for the
chosen one. Moses led multitudes of people out of Egypt to escape
to wrath of the Pharaoh. Noah sailed for forty days and nights
while flood waters inundated the earth.
And like our journey, there was something good at
the end. But with the end of one journey there is the start of
another. And so it is in life .... a journey with journeys.
Given to us by our creator, with the power to enhance, not only
our lives, but the lives of others as well.
Our journey begins at the first draw of breath, and
ends with the last. But between the first and the last is a whole
host of adventures and paths our lives take. Along our travels,
people we meet, places we see. But the real journey is the journey
of 'understanding'.
Understanding the differences with one another.
For it is those differences that give our world its uniqueness.
So, we journey.... seeking a greater understanding of the world.
And when we reach that understanding, we will know the meaning
of Everlasting Life!
Prayer: May the
Lord bless and enrich our lives as we journey on this earth....
bless us with the holy spirit .... That we may find comfort
in times of suffering .... joy in times of happiness .... and
peace in times of turmoil. Bless our families, friends ....
and bless those less fortunate than we. We ask this in the Lord's
name, Amen.
