Reformation Lutheran 1997 Lenten Devotional - Number 28
March 11, 1997. Today's Bible verse is Matthew 8: 23-27
Calm Waters
The Sea of Galilee, although quite small and usually
placid, can become treacherous when cold westerly winds push through
the hills and valleys creating raging storms in a matter of minutes.
Calm waters can erupt with fury as they did that
might when the disciples awakened Jesus. "Lord," they
said, "save us; we are perishing".
Sometimes everything seems peaceful and secure in
our lives and without warning an event shatters our calm and catapults
us into turmoil. It is precisely at that moment that we need
to remember Jesus' words. "you of little faith, why are
you so afraid?" Whenever we come to our time of trials we
must turn our pain and anguish over to Christ. Has He not promised,
"Lo, I am with you always". Only He can calm our seas
and give us peace.
Prayer: Dear
Lord, as our lives are buffeted by the inevitable storms of life,
direct us to place our trust in you. Provide us with your guidance,
strength, and the knowledge that you are with us always. Help
us renew our commitment to your service. Amen.
