Reformation Lutheran 1997 Lenten Devotional - Number 24
March 7, 1997. Today's Bible verse is Matthew 5:17-20
Rules to Follow
If we lived in a world where there were no laws,
imagine what a mess it would be! Every person has a set of laws
or rules which they live by. These laws can reflect the environment
in which they were raised.
If a person was raised in a place where anything
goes, and there are no set boundaries, this person might have
a "who cares" attitude. They might not think twice
about doing something that is breaking a law. Whereas a person
who was raised in an environment with rules and set boundaries,
this person would weigh the consequences of the actions before
going through with them. This would probably result in the action
not being done.
We should be happy that God came to fulfill the laws
and not abolish them. This gives every person the choice to follow
a path that is right for them. We start at the beginning of a
child's life and try to guide them along the right path. As they
grow, they may choose a different branch than what the parent
wants, but if the base is strong the branch will eventually bend
toward the main path.
Prayer: Dear
God, please lead us to always follow the path you have chosen
for us, following the laws that you have given us. Amen.
