Reformation Lutheran 1997 Lenten Devotional - Number 19
March 2, 1997. Today's Bible verse is Galatians 6: 1-10
Christ's Law is Love
In this scripture passage, each of us is commended
to gently and with love, guide those in need of admonition and
instruct them, that they might correct their ways. In order to
do this, we must first examine our motives and be sure we ourselves
are not in need of mending our ways. We are to bear one another's
burdens. How are we to do this? We can lighten the burdens of
others with caring, sympathy, and with love. By these actions,
we are helping fulfill the law of Christ.... the law of love.
Paul further reminds us that, "whatever a man
sows, that he will also reap". He urges us not to lose heart
and grow weary of "well-doing" but instead, as the opportunities
arise, to do good to all men. Christian love is not limited.
In fact, when we fail to gently and lovingly admonish
, or when we foolishly commit acts of selfishness or thoughtlessness
toward others, or fail to do acts of kindness in our daily walk
in life ---- are we not in fact, diminishing the love of Christ
we confess? We must always remember the law of Christ is the
law of love. All that we do should be done in love.
Prayer: Gracious
and loving father, guide our thoughts, words and actions that
we may be living examples of our goodness. Grant us courage and
faith that we may follow your word and show love and concern for
others in our daily lives. Amen
