Reformation Lutheran 1997 Lenten Devotional - Number 9
February 20, 1997. Today's Bible verse is Galatians 6: 7-10
Be True
I recently received a letter from a non-profit Christian
mission my family has supported for several years. The letter
was to recognize our contributions by making us a member of the
"Samaritans Circle".
That's nice, I thought. As I read further, I saw
how our level of contributions placed us in one of four categories
of the Samaritans Circle. Circle of Faith; Circle of Care;
Circle of Hope; Circle of Love. They also wanted to place our
name on a plaque in the mission, list our names in an edition
of the mission newsletter and if we attend the annual open house,
recognize us there.
As I finished the letter I was troubled. Did we
deserve this recognition? We began giving out of love and service.
It may have become routine over the years, but this letter gave
us the opportunity to reaffirm our original motivation, "Love
and Service". Don't allow the world to move the focus of
your giving, stay true.
The one who sows to be recognized by the world, their
reward will be of this world. Let's all your gifts be given in
praise of God's love and blessings. Remember the one who sows
to please the spirit will reap eternal life.
Prayer: Dear
Lord, thank you for the blessing you have given me. Help me to
see the many simple areas where I can act as your agent. Let
me be a vessel by which you comfort, strengthen, praise, and love.
In Jesus name, Amen.
