Reformation Lutheran 1997 Lenten Devotional - Number 7
February 18, 1997. Today's Bible verse is John 14: 15-21
If You Love Me ...
There have been times while shopping that I have
been given an excess of change or in looking at my receipt when
I get home have found I was not charged for some item I laid on
the counter.
Is it my lucky day?
But then it must be the Holy Spirit that prods me.
If I keep what I have not paid for, isn't that breaking one of
the Commandments?
Number 8 states specifically "Thou shalt not
steal". It does not add an 'unless' .... When I've pointed
the error out to the clerk I have been told "You are so honest"
and they seem surprised! Well, I don't know that there is a degree
of honesty. I think God is pretty clear on this and if I have
to live with myself I must fight the human temptation to keep
what is not rightfully mine.
Prayer: Dear
God, please be with me in my daily struggles. May your Holy Spirit
remind me of you will for my life. In gratitude for my many blessings,
Amen.
